Training and Advance Instruction

The platform »Instruction and Training bavAIRia« has the goal of assuring a tailor-made and sustainable pool of skilled personnel for the Bavarian aviation, aerospace and satellite navigation branches.

Aviation and aerospace as well as satellite navigation are international high-tech branches whose markets are expected to experience strong growth in the next two decades.

As to available expertise, the aviation, aerospace and satellite navigation branches are already being confronted with a major challenge today: there is already a lack of qualified personnel, a situation which will clearly intensify in the coming years.

In 2007 there were some 6,200 unfilled vacancies in aviation and aerospace in Germany (national statistics for the satellite navigation branch are not yet available). In Bavaria the figure for aviation and aerospace was around 1,200; for satellite navigation the estimate was 250 to 300 unfilled vacancies. Of this figure, about 65% were for engineers and about 35% for other, primarily technically skilled workers in aviation and aerospace. Because of its specific branch structure, the proportion of unfilled engineering positions is over 80% in satellite navigation.

In order to support and assure a supply of qualified new personnel, a comprehensive basic concept has been developed which sequentially incorporates the closely interrelated focal points »Schools,« »Training and Advanced Instruction,« »University Studies« and »Placement Services for the Highly Skilled.« This is being accomplished as part of the »Instruction and Training bavAIRia« platform with the cooperation of companies active in Bavarian aviation, aerospace and satellite navigation. The concept and associated measures for each main area are in a continuous process of development and adaptation.

An attempt is being made to achieve the goal of sustainably developing a succession of skilled workers as efficiently as possible. Existing information as well as training and advance instruction options must be used, processed, modified as needed, and coordinated. Unnecessary duplication of structures in the training and advance instruction sector is to be avoided to the extent possible by involving partner initiatives, associations, organizations and training providers.
